When I wrote about my new truck a couple months ago, I mentioned always being on the lookout for a “score”. Well, this one was a good one, and proves that it pays to knock on doors.
For the last month or so, I’ve been looking at this pile of wood that we pass every day going to and from work. On Friday evening, we decided to stop and ask the owner of the house if he had any plans for it. He told me that he did not and asked “Do you want it? You can take all you want, ’cause I’d love to get it out of my yard.”
We made two trips Friday night and hauled two loads home in the back of my pickup truck, but there was still a LOT more left. Friday’s loads were the “small” stuff. I had to work on Saturday and Sunday, so we were forced to wait until today to go back and get the rest.
I borrowed my dad’s trailer and heavy duty dolly so that Becky and I could load up the last of it. There was no way that we were going to get the big stuff up into the bed of my pickup truck. The trailer had a ramp on the back which made it possible to load what was left.
As you can see, I still have a lot of work to do. I’m running out of room in my driveway. Not all of the wood in the picture came from this score. If I had to guess, I’d say 75 % of it did.
